The Streak

Elisha Stenger is a junior at Warren Hills. This will be her second year writing for The Streak, but her first year as Copy Editor.  Elisha loves how Journalism challenges her to take a close look at herself and the people around her, ask critical questions, and synthesize what she finds into an intriguing, yet succinct, article. When she isn’t investigating for potential stories in her community or expressing her strong opinions about the environment, Elisha plays marimba in the Marching Band, programs on the Robotics Team, and sings alto in Select Choir. She is actively involved in Girl Up as secretary, and SAVE, Students Against Vandalizing the Earth, as an executive member. She also sings in her church choir and plays in her church bell choir. In her free time, she can be found having deep conversations with her favorite people, spending time outside with her family, or listening to music alone in her room. Some of her other hobbies include photography, reading, procrastinating, cooking, organizing, and torturing her cats with love and affection. Elisha is a passionate environmentalist, and plans to study environmental science at a four-year liberal arts college in order to pursue a career in sustainability or environmental science.

In early May, Mr. Detrick’s Chess Club helped package bikes he collected throughout the year for Pedals for Progress. “We had our most successful drive to date with 145 bikes, 58 sewing machines and $2126 to help shipping costs to Albania,” he said. “We really have some absolutely amazing students. They worked hard for nearly four hours to process all those bikes which included taking off all the pedals, lowering the seat and turning down the handle bars. It was a great day with so many activities going on at the high school.”
