Streak Sweethearts: David Detrick & Donna Schrepple
David “Dave” Detrick met Donna Schrepple when he was a senior and she was a sophomore. They’d seen each other in the hallways before, but officially met at a school dance on May 6, 1966. While she was “in awe that he was a junior and a wrestler,” he thought that she had a “cute smile and was very kind.” The two walked to the movie together at the Washington Theater for their first date. Their favorite high school memory was on the last day of school in 1966, when they realized they had the same birthday, but dances at school, double dates with friends, long rides on a motorcycle and stops at Stewart’s Root Beer Stand are looked back on fondly as well. Shortly after Donna graduated in 1969, the couple got married in 1970 in Connecticut, with a honeymoon in Mount Snow, Vermont. The couple lived out of the area for a decade post-graduation, but have remained in the area since the early 80’s. Ultimately, Dave taught and was a counselor at Warren Hills for 29 years, and Donna was a teacher and counselor at Washington Township School District for 27 years. Both of their sons, Daryl and Douglas, attended Warren Hills and graduated in 1989 and 1992, respectively, and their grandchildren, Sarah and Nathan, graduated in 2012 and 2014. “We have attended many of our kids’ and grandkids’ activities,” the couple responded, “and Daryl is currently a Computer Science teacher at Warren Hills.” After a great start at Warren Hills, the two say they have been, “blessed with great families and wonderful life adventures.” As for advice for younger couples, Dave and Donna advise young lovers to: “enjoy each other’s company and maintain some common interests, but make sure you give each other space and support for independent activities.”
