Emily Deming, Editor in Chief

Emily Deming is a senior and holds the position of Editor in Chief this year on The Streak staff. This is Deming’s third year in journalism and she is very proud of how far she’s come from a timid reporter to someone with almost full control of the production of the newspaper.  Last year, she got to work as the Layout Editor and though they were only able to get out two physical papers due to the pandemic, the work she did get done she was incredibly proud of.

She was also lucky enough to get to virtually attend the Hugh N. Boyd Journalism Diversity Workshop by Rutgers University in July.  This experience has made her determined to push herself and spend all the time she can on ensuring The Streak staff  gets to publish an issue each marking period this year.. In the past three years she has learned a lot about journalism, writing, and the graphic elements of putting together a publication and after consideration, decided to pursue a career in journalism. It is her biggest goal to be able to write for a legitimate newspaper, focusing on real world events and how they affect us.

Outside of journalism, Deming is also the two-time Layout Editor of the Warren Hills Yearbook, where she gets to use many of the same skills. Getting to work on the newspaper as much as she has is one of her biggest accomplishments and helped her greatly in understanding what she is personally capable of in terms of achieving social justice, for which she will always be grateful.
