Bailey Asbury, Staff Reporter
Bailey E. Asbury is a junior at Warren Hills Regional High School, where she is president of the Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA) and Editor-in-Chief of the Student Literary and Art Magazine (SLAM). After moving from Florida to New Jersey at the age of five, she has attended school in Washington since 2010. In March of 2022, she began her Girl Scout Gold Award and was projected to complete it in fall 2022; for the project, she is highlighting six LGBTQIA+ figures in American history. After graduating high school, Asbury plans to attend college in Massachusetts to study history and English, get her teacher’s certificate, and teach in a Massachusetts public high school. She enjoys presenting showcases, participating in academic meets, and reading poetry at poetry SLAMs held in the Warren Hills library. With two cats at home, Max and Pumpkin, she is kept very busy tending to them and keeping up her hobby of creative arts as she sketches and paints digitally to share online and with friends. Asbury, however, spends most of her time writing and reading about historical events, fantasy worlds, and social justice issues to broaden her knowledge of history and work on the ability to effectively communicate information to her peers. She says she is thrilled to have the opportunity to serve her community and school this year.
