At the heart of Warren Hills sports lies its football team, a pillar of school spirit and community pride. Whether you’re a student, alumni, or teacher, odds are you’ve probably been to, or will go to a Warren Hills football game at some point.
The electric atmosphere at the games is contagious, and the school spirit can be felt throughout the whole stadium. The excitement stems from Coach Gurdineer’s enthusiasm and his players, it’s no surprise Coach G has been honored with the “NY Giants Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Week” award.
For Coach G, this award represents much more than just a personal achievement, it’s a reflection of the collective efforts that drive Warren Hills football. “It really just demonstrates how hard everyone has worked to build success for the program. The award is a reflection of our Administration and Board of Education being dedicated to our sports programs including our administrative assistants, the parents putting in countless hours to not only get their child to practice; but fundraising and community service. Our assistant coaches, who work tirelessly throughout the season and offseason to prepare the players. However, most of all the players who dedicate themselves and are committed to pushing themselves both on and off the field. It’s truly just a representation of collective efforts.” says Coach G.
Even though the award is technically from last season, according to Coach G, many of the players who contributed to last season’s accomplishments are still part of the team. The players are carrying their enthusiasm into this season and constantly pushing themselves to do better, “ One of the most amazing attributes about our team is they never allow themselves to settle for good enough. They constantly want more demanded of them and demand more of themselves to reach success. It’s a tremendous experience to be around.” he explained.
Coach G’s coaching strategy revolves around teamwork, effort, and always striving for improvement, “My coaching philosophy is simple – we are only as good as one another. We want to leave our tank empty everyday and exhaust ourselves at the sport we love. If everyone comes early, with a great attitude and willing to work as hard as they can no matter what, from the coaches to the players we will be successful.” he says.
One of Warren Hills football captains, John Korzukowski explained how his coaches leadership and teachings have helped strengthen the team tremendously, helping the team never lose faith in one another, “He is always very supportive of us and making sure we know that he still believes in us and knows that we have what it takes to win.” says Korzukowski.
It’s this devotion to both the sport and each other that has made the Warren Hills football team a force to be reckoned with!
