After the release of pop album Elsewhere in March 2022, alternative band Set It Off is diving back into their punk rock roots with new singles.
This new era, coined the Dopamine Era, has been successful for the band. Drummer Maxx Danziger wrote on the band’s Instagram: “The Dopamine Tour has been absolutely unreal. Thank you for everything.”
Formerly signed to Fearless Records, Set It Off and their new music is the first to be released as an independent artist. Two albums were released while they were signed to Fearless Records from 2018-2022, and four albums and an EP were released through Equal Vision Records from 2011-2016.
After deleting all posts from their Instagram in March, the three-member band began teasing a new punk song titled “Punching Bag.” Since March, it has garnered nearly 9.5 million streams on Spotify. Less than two weeks after its release, it already had 1 million streams.
Even five months after its release, “Punching Bag” was at number one on the SiriusXM Octane chart.
Since then, they have released three other singles, including a song titled “Win Win” in May that featured fellow alternative artist Scene Queen on the track.
More new music was teased in mid-October; a new single entitled “Evil People” was released later the same month.
True to singer and frontman Cody Carson’s words, the new songs are much more punk rock oriented than the 2022 album Elsewhere. The new songs’ musical vibes are similar to early albums, such as 2013’s Cinematics.
Most recently, Set It Off released “Parasite” on Dec. 8, sticking to punk rock and featuring rap as well.
Ultimately, the new era of Set It Off has been successful for the band. Both the members and the fans are happy, and fans cannot wait to see where this new era of music is headed.
