Sarah Hale, Hills Happenings Editor

Sarah Hale is a senior and a second-year Journalism student at Warren Hills. She is thrilled to be working with Mrs. McKinney and the rest of the newspaper staff again, this time as the Hills Happening Editor. Sarah’s love of Journalism is rooted in her ability to express herself through her writing while still maintaining the literary integrity by supporting her work with objective research. Though she does not plan on pursuing a career in Journalism, Sarah recognizes the important skills she has learned and how they will translate into everyday aspects of her life. Sarah is more inclined to be found writing stories of her own, but she enjoys the challenges of writing non-fiction. Besides writing, Sarah can be found embroidering, snowboarding, filming, and avoiding her homework. She has a special interest in gardening and nature and aspires to take up beekeeping in the future. She is a novice violin player and hopes to improve her skills throughout the rest of high school and beyond. While unsure of the specifics, Sarah knows she’d like to explore a career working with dogs and other animals that provide mental health services.

For English Teacher Emily Kablis’ public speaking class this year, students were assigned to write and present a How-To Speech. For Sarah Chaplain, this meant bringing in her life-size horse statue to show her classmates how to tack up Western style. Chaplain and her father built the lifelike model along with three others, all of which are built to size. Each of her horses was designed with a certain magical creature in mind. The one she brought to class was a Threstral, but back at home, she also has a unicorn, Pegasus and water kelpie. Chaplain has been riding for practically her entire life, and she has her own, living horse, as well. Her father, an elevator mechanic, added features such as glowing eyes, moving heads, and flapping wings. It’s no wonder that Chaplain got an A on her speech. (Photo by Sarah Hale)
