On Wednesday, January 8, the Student Council attended the NJASC (New Jersey Association of Student Councils) Winter College of New Jersey.
This conference was a big success for our Student Council, they received multiple awards throughout the day.
Junior Christina Le was elected as the NJASC State Treasurer for 2025.
“It felt super exciting to win and I feel proud of myself. I was so nervous as they slowly announced each officer, especially because the opposing candidate had a really good speech and campaign.” Le said.
Le is a dedicated student and has big goals for her new positions. “As the 2025 Treasurer, I’m definitely looking forward to working with the new officers and managing all my new responsibilities for NJASC. My main duty is managing NJASC’s finances, alongside the Top Ten Projects awards. This summer, I’m excited to lead the Leadership Training Conference sessions at TCNJ. I will make Treasurer my top priority and try my best to represent NJASC’s mission to make a difference as a student leader. I genuinely want to inspire people to step out of their comfort zones and work towards their goals even if they seem impossible.” Le said.
Our Student Council also received the Top 10 Project Award for their Mental Health Awareness Month (MHAM) project.
This project took place last year in May. The Student Council put together a thirty day mental health calendar and they hosted a mental health spirit week. During this week they organized lunch outreaches that touched on different aspects of mental health.
The executive board presented a workshop on the MHAM project to a packed room. Other New Jersey student councils and advisors observed in a “standing room only”.
“It was nice to be awarded for something that we all care about and what we’ve been doing for two years. We were excited to share what we have been doing, hopefully other schools can find new inspiration.” Student Council President Meredith Dufner told me.
The last award that was won for our student council is the Honor School Award. This is awarded to schools with very active student councils.
“To win the award we have to put on five events that are sponsored by us. We also have to participate and help in ten events throughout the school. This is the ninth year in a row that we have received this award.” Penny Giamoni, advisor of the Student Council said.
This was a very big day for the Student Council. They came home from the trip with two awards and a new NJASC treasurer.
“I’m so proud of Christina. She has a very good campaign going and I heard people were raving about her speech for the whole day. This is a huge accomplishment for her.” Said Giamoni.
