Each year, students and faculty wonder who is responsible for creating the memorable Warren Hills Regional High School yearbook. The answer? A dedicated team led by Genevieve deBoer, whose vision and teamwork bring the vibrant memories of Warren Hills to life in a truly remarkable way.
She originally wanted to be an interior designer, attending East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
With a focus on art history and interior design, she later landed a job at Pottery Barn toward the end of college.
There, she worked as a design manager, helping clients design their spaces by visiting their homes. From 2007 to 2014, she loved her job, but she was eventually laid off due to corporate restructuring.
This setback pushed her to return to school, and she enrolled in the Master of Arts in Education (M.A.Ed.) program at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.
“I would say I wanted to be an interior designer; however, teaching provided a more consistent opportunity,” deBoer said. “I am still able to curate my spaces whether it be my home or my classroom.”
She started teaching in South Jersey from 2015 to 2018, and completed her M.A.Ed. in 2016.
After this series of events, deBoer transitioned into a new role at Warren Hills Regional High School for the 2018-19 school year. She quickly took on the responsibilities of both a Visual Arts teacher and the Yearbook advisor.
Her passion for art and design, combined with her strong organizational skills, made her the perfect fit for guiding students through the creative process of capturing the essence of the school year in the yearbook.
Her determination and vision for the yearbook continue to shape its success, as she inspires and guides students each year.
“Miss. deBoer guides everybody on the staff by always directing us when we need advice, both with writing and photography,” says Alex Acevado, a senior and Yearbook Editor and Chief at WHRHS.
Teaching is just one of Genevieve deBoer’s many passions. Outside the halls of Warren Hills, she enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it’s exploring nature, baking delicious treats, or capturing moments through photography. She also cherishes time with her family and her dogs.
She has two Italian Greyhounds — Cora and Lina, who are 8 months and 11 years respectively.
“My love for Italian Greyhounds stems from my love of art history,” deBoer says. “You often see the breed in paintings throughout history, most commonly in Italian Renaissance art.”
A fun fact about deBoer is that she has been to about 50~ concerts in her entire life.
Currently, she is eager to continue her passion for teaching at WHRHS, dedicated to enriching the yearbook with each passing year.
“Developing a bond and friendship with my other colleagues in the art department would definitely be my favorite memory about Warren Hills,”, said deBoer.
