Despite their loss against Chatham High School, the night was filled with celebration as everyone honored the Warren Hills senior athletes.
On October 18th, the marching band, color guard, cross country, cheer, and football team were commemorated for all of their hard work and dedication throughout the years.
The football team showed incredible resilience and the community’s support for their seniors was heartwarming while everyone recognized breast cancer awareness by wearing pink. The team may have faced a setback against Chatham, but with renewed focus on strategy and teamwork, they’re gearing up to keep the trophy from Hackettstown for the homecoming rivalry game.
“The fans are a very crucial part of the game, especially the student section: The Blue Crew,” said junior Michael Dufner.
“They are what always keep us going during the games and they make it very fun and entertaining. Everyone coming to the Hackettstown game is important because they know it is a rivalry and it will be exciting, so we need people there to cheer us on.”
The boys showed determination by pushing the game into overtime. There were key moments where they displayed skill and team chemistry, proving their commitment and resilience. They never gave up and fought until the very end, showcasing a level of effort and spirit that truly inspires. Even though the final score was not in their favor, the team’s performance was a testament to their hard work and unity.
“Overall, as a team after the game we were all pretty bummed because losing like that never feels good,” said senior Captain John Korczukowski.
“But, I think that this game is going to carry over into this week against Hackettsotwn and it will keep us motivated to come out with a win. And it being our rivalry while as our last game of the season, it will help us stay focused and determined on winning.”
When having such a heavyweight game after the next, it can be a lot to take on. The boys are preparing to be able to end the season on a win against their rivalry for the 99th game that the Blue Streaks have played against the Tigers.
“The team anticipates a more challenging game than Hackettstown has faced against any other opponent, given the intensity of our rivalry,” said senior Captain Brock Duerring.
“We are confident in our abilities and expect to secure a significant win because we believe their performance does not measure up to ours.”
Unfortunately, although the boys are gearing toward the end of the season, there is sadly still room for players to get injured.
“I will be continuing to go to practices and be on the sidelines for game days and cheering them on,” said junior Captain Nick Riess.
“My advice would be to leave everything on the field and to stay level headed. As well as trusting your teammates as much as they trust in you.”
