Susan Rader has worked at Warren Hills Regional High School since August 2011, and she plans to retire this winter. She is a figure deeply looked up to among the students and staff.
She started her career as a Spanish teacher and eventually was a world language and business supervisor. She also worked as a testing coordinator.
Throughout her time she improved the environment of the school through “the relationships built with staff and students”.
She recalls her favorite memory being the ski trips that the ski club went on. Rader explains, “I learned how to ski in 5th grade with my school’s ski club, it’s my favorite sport and I always watch the Ski Olympics.”
The superintendent at Warren Hills, Earl Clymer was a part of the hiring process for Rader and is sad to see her leave. Clymer said, “I will miss her dedication to and leadership in providing the best possible school experience for all students. She was always willing to take on leadership roles for events, initiatives, and activities that enhanced our school community.”
When asked about the interview process he explained, “Mrs. Rader was by far the top candidate through the entire interview process. She demonstrated a strong leadership style with a focus on supporting students and faculty. Her previous experience as a curriculum supervisor added a needed aspect to complement her role as Assistant Principal. “
He also remembered, “My favorite memory has to be her GOOOOO Streaks announcements! It started as a way to boost school spirit and ended up on multiple t-shirts!”
Finally Glenn Barker, the other vice principal who has worked alongside Rader said, “I’m going to miss the day-to-day interactions, her humor, her professionalism, and her ability to manage a calendar. Something tells me I’m going to be a few steps behind with her gone! On any given day she knows exactly what is going on within the building, and has a keen ability to let everyone in the main office know what is likely to happen next!
Lastly he added, “I’d say my most favorite memory of Mrs. Rader while working with her is how she organizes and manages the Senior Halloween Event here at Warren Hills. This event has proven to be a hit over the years mainly because of Mrs. Rader’s attention to detail and clear expectations! Not to mention, she always participates and gets in the Halloween Spirit by wearing her costumes.”
Rader also gave her advice to students who plan to have a future. She said, “It’s not as easy as you think. Not just summers off. A lot of hard work goes into it every day. But if you are dedicated and committed it’s a great career.”
Finally she added that her biggest inspiration is her father because he is the best person she knows.
Overall Rader is very crucial to the positive environment of the school community, and will be missed by many.
