Some of the biggest named artists like Taylor Swift, Eminem, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and more were celebrated at the 40th annual MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). The show dazzled audiences at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 11, 2024.
The MTV VMAs is an annual award ceremony which honors artists for each music medium. Originally held in 1984, the VMAs has not only maintained its significance but has grown immensely in popularity over the last few years.
It was originally held as an alternative from the GRAMMY awards but has branched out to hold its own significance.
The show began with the evening’s host, Megan Thee Stallion, who was paying tribute to Britney Spears’ 2001 performance outfit “I’m a Slave 4 U” with her look.
Eminem was the opening act for the VMAs and gave a captivating performance of his songs “Houdini” and “Somebody Save Me”.
Several other artists took the audiences’ breath away with their performances.
First time VMAs performer Sabrina Carpenter performed some of her newest hit songs like “Please Please Please”, “Taste” and “Espresso” with an unforgettable alien themed performance.
Rising star Chappell Roan gave a creative medieval themed performance for her hit song “Good Luck, Babe!”.
Taylor Swift won seven out of 12 of her nominations of the night such as ‘Video of the Year’ and ‘Artist of the Year’. Now having a career total of 30 VMAs trophies, she is now tied with Beyonce for having the most VMAs trophies of all time.
