Janine Horber is a new teacher at Warren Hills High School this year, teaching English Language Arts classes for grades 9 and 11.
Though she is new to the high school, she is not new to the district, as she has taught at the Warren Hills Regional Middle School (WHRMS) for three years, earning a teacher of the year award in the 2022-2023 school year.
Horber has also taught at Franklin High School in Somerset for two years and Jefferson Township High School for one year.
For the last 25 years, Horber has been invested in English literature.
“I used to actually write my own poems in eighth grade, which truly sparked my interest for writing and English literature in general,” she said.
In fact, she has her own website where she writes her own poetry and has “been published in several magazines and anthologies.”
She is also the new WHRHS Newspaper Club advisor, taking over from English Teacher Mary Ann McKinney, who retired in June.
Following her love for writing, Horber went to college at Ramapo College of New Jersey, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. She also went to graduate school, earning a Master of Fine Arts in Writing degree at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
In Horber’s free time, you can find her reading, relaxing, performing photography or hiking.
“My love for nature and hiking have inspired me over the years, whether it’s sunsets, rugged mountains, or winding rivers,” she said. “Nature has always been an inspiration for me; I can always find peace in nature.”
She is also fond of car racing.
“Whether it’s track days, rally events or just car meets, I have always loved photographing cars,” she said. “As an enthusiast, it’s a pleasure to meet the owners and learn about their cars. The rally/racing community is one of the best groups of people I have the pleasure of knowing.”
Horber’s fellow high-school teachers, as well as her former middle-school students whom she now sees in class and in the hallways, say it’s a pleasure that she has joined the high school this year. They hope that she will be here for many more years as her diligence, pride, and passion drive new inspiration for students.
