K-pop’s Blackpink Gives Fans Unforgettable Newark Show
Blackpink took the stage Nov. 14 to kick off their phenomenal two-day tour at the Prudential Center in Newark.
As the concert approached, fans of Blackpink, also known as Blinks, were seen donned in black and pink attire to match the group’s iconic aesthetic.
Fans of the group were seen carrying lightsticks throughout the concert, which are popular items at performances featuring Korean pop music, also known as K-pop. The lightsticks, each shaped like a black hammer with pink hearts, are a physical embodiment of the energy and excitement that Blackpink brings to their shows.
Before the concert began, fans enthusiastically sang some of the group’s popular songs and danced while waving lightsticks to the beat of the group’s music videos that were being displayed on the screens close to the stage.
Even though Blackpink’s discography is quite small, consisting of only two studio albums, three EPs, and a handful of singles, they prove that it is more than enough to put on an incredible show.
Blackpink, which burst onto the music scene in 2016, strutted the stage with confidence to the first song opening with their single “How You Like That” from their debut studio album The Album.
Their fearlessness never ceased as they moved into “Pretty Savage” with their typical strong and smooth choreography. Then they moved onto “Whistle,” an addictive song with simplistic beats accompanied by hip-hop undertones and influences.
After a fantastic opening, the members took some time to introduce themselves to the cheering crowd. They seemed more serious than usual at first, but it didn’t take long for the giggles and laughs to start flowing between them. Members teased each other about taking too long to refresh themselves before they started the next song.
It was clear they were all enjoying themselves and eager to reconnect with their fans. This was just a taste of the great sense of humor that would be on display throughout the rest of the show.
The next songs, “Don’t Know What To Do” and “Lovesick Girls,” showed a more gentle side of the group. Their vocals were accentuated by the live instrumentals from the band.
Jennie, a member of the four-girl group, joked with the other members of how they had been quiet during the concert.
Jennie then addressed the crowd: “If we seem a little quiet on stage, it’s because we’re feeling kind of nervous and shy right now,” she said before continuing on to express how the four of them wanted to make sure their return show was an amazing one for their fans.
An iconic moment of the show was during the encore, when the group came out in their comfortable tour merch. In the clothing, they were more at ease, hugging each other, playing with the cameras on stage, and just enjoying themselves as they sang “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.”
Moments like these have fans coming back to enjoy their music – not just for their personas, but also for a glimpse into who the girls really are.
