Stunning, stellar and superb are just a few of the words that can be used to describe the 2021-22 Blue Streaks Boys and Girls Bowling seasons. From amazing performances by both teams on every level, to winning the Skylands Conference Tournament, this season was a year to remember.
The hot start to the season began at the Greg Rottengen Kickoff Tournament where the Blue Streak boys took first and the girls took second, falling short to the Stateliners by just 34 pins .
This left many questions about both teams and how they would perform.
The first match of the 2021-22 season started off with a heartbreaking loss in their opening matches to the Phillipsburg Stateliners, with the girls losing the set 7-0, and the boys losing 4-3.
That loss set off a spark that ignited new life in the Streaks as they went on to win 11 of their next 12 matches, all by a score of 7-0. The only team that swept the Streaks on both occasions were the Liners.
The Streaks, however, did not handle these losses lightly and took their determination to win into the Skylands Tournament, where both teams put on phenomenal performances throughout the day. The two teams once again competing for the top spot were the Stateliners and the Streaks.
For the girls, it was a somewhat comfortable victory, winning the conference over the Liners with a score of 2509-2440. The boys, however, had a nailbiter, as their result came down to the final frame. In the end, the boys won it all over the Liners with a score of 2938-2936.
With both wins at Skylands, confidence was through the roof, and this was key to their success in the State Sectional Championships in February.
The girls knew that the state competition would be fierce and in the end, they finished second in their section and advanced to the State Tournament.
The girls also had senior Ainsley Bee and sophomore Landry Johnson advance to the Individual State Championship.
For the boys, the team started off rough, but had a dominant second and third game, ultimately leading to the State Sectional win, and advancing to the State Tournament.
Senior Frankie LoPresti (me) and sophomores Brady Weilamann and Matt Comerro advanced to the Individual State Championship as well.
In the end, the girls finished fourth in their division and sixth overall in the State, with Bee finishing 78th and Johnson finishing 21st at Individuals.
The boys finished seventh in the division and 11th overall, with LoPresti (me) finishing 78th, Weilamann finishing 77th, and Comerro finishing 42nd at Individuals.
