Thomas F. Zins, a partnership specialist with the 2020 Census, spoke to students about the purpose of the U.S. Census Bureau and the upcoming 2020 Census during a showcase in the Elizabeth Ames Library. Zins explained the purpose of the United States Census Bureau, stating that census officials have to “count everyone once, only once and in the right place.” The U.S. Census Bureau attempts to count all residents in the United States and its territories in order to aid the government in distributing money to states based on population. According to a handout, “U.S. Census Bureau at a Glance,” that Zins distributed to students, “The U.S. Census Bureau’s mission is to serve as the leading source of quality data about the nation’s people and economy. We are guided on this mission by scientific objectivity, our strong and capable workforce, our devotion to research-based innovation, and our abiding commitment to our customers.” (Photo by Andy Oakley)
