Fortnite: The newest, hottest game that everyone is playing.
It’s that game that is put on hundreds of Snapchat stories.

This free game was released by Epic Games on July 25 of last year. Since then, it has become extremely popular, now available on PS4, Xbox, PC, Mac, and Mobile devices.

Developers continue to modify and update the game, adding new maps, cosmetic items, and more. These updates are not only keeping players interested, but are continuing the expansion of the game.

Fortnite consists of 100 people dropping from a “party bus” and onto a map that currently includes 19 named places, where people can drop to gather supplies.

The main goal of the game is to survive until you are the last one left. This is done by gathering weapons and materials, as well as eliminating other people in the game.

Students are now in awe over the game, spending hours playing after school and on weekends.

One of these students includes sophomore Alexandra Lino, who said the game is simple.

“100 people start on a bus and jump out whenever they want to on a map,” she said. “You collect materials and stay inside the circle of the storm. You get hurt if you’re not in the circle. Be the last one standing and win.”

Even those who do not play the game are very familiar with it, including junior Katherine Johnson.

“I think there’s a market for games like Fortnite. There are cool graphics, you can play with online friends, people from all over the world, or your personal friends,” she said. “There’s a feeling of success when you win the game that I think people are attracted to.”

But will the game become less popular anytime soon?

Junior Joey Costa said, “Possibly, only if the genre becomes less popular itself. It has very healthy competition

between other Battle Royale games. While I think [Fortnite] has its own unique features, it simply does not compare to the likes of games such as Player Unknown’s: Battlegrounds. The game simply has much better gunplay and strategy involved, it’s more tactical and realistic in my opinion.”

As the game continues to expand, Epic Games adds more to the game, including a mobile version, that has gathered mixed opinions. Junior Nijl Allen is one of many who have played on multiple consoles, including the new mobile version.

Allen said, “It is good because some people don’t have computers or consoles so they have a chance to play on their phones,” he said. “I think it’s a really unique game. It’s free so it makes it even better.”
