The Warren Hills Regional Middle School Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble performed at their Winter Concert in the high school auditorium Jan. 15. The Concert Band played eight selections, one of which was “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond. Eighth-grader Hunter Patti, who gave the introduction for “Sweet Caroline,” informed the audience that they could “feel free to join in on the ‘so goods’ and the Ba-Ba’s.” The Jazz band performed “Absolutely, Positively” by Gregory Yasinitsky and “Kansas City” by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Rio Riano, an eighth-grade alto and baritone saxophone player, performed solos for both Jazz Band songs. Haley Branflick and Clara Woodruff, both eighth-grade flutists; Olivia Raia, eighth-grade piccoloist and flutist; Frank Cignarella, seventh-grade trumpeter; and Lukas Liakhovitch, seventh-grade saxophonist, played solos for “Encanto” by Robert W. Smith. Gianna Marinelli, an eighth-grade percussionist, played a solo for “Appalachian Folk Dance,” also by Robert W. Smith. “We had some music that was quite challenging,” said Band Director Jason Graf. “It wasn’t perfect, but it all came together and worked out.” (Photo by Stephanie Dunlap)
